Summer Magic – Do You Feel It?

I’m writing to you on August 8th, my 55th birthday. It’s also the New Moon in Leo – a day of new beginnings, albeit a bit rocky for some because of the other astrology of the day.

But for me, it’s been smooth sailing and good surprises! A lovely early-morning walk with the dogs and Jacob, then breakfast at Counter Culture, one of my favorite breakfast joints in Santa Fe. I’m working out the details of purchasing a new Toyota RAV Prime – it’s the first time either of us has bought a brand-new car in 30-plus years!

On island time

I attribute the smooth sailing to how I’ve spent the last two weeks. We recently returned from a two-week vacation on Little Deer Island, Maine. We stayed at a cottage that has been in my husband’s family for 100 years.

We use propane to light the place and cook. We use an outhouse. We sit on the front porch each morning, noon, and evening watching the water of Penobscot Bay change colors and textures. We have hilarious and deep conversations with whoever is there – this time Jacob’s two sisters and their families.

Back to basics

In this place, there is little between us and nature. Porpoises glide through the water. Jellyfish float near the shore at high tide. Seals lounge on the rocks at low tide or hunt a school of fish in the still water. The fish jump high en masse to avoid being swallowed into the seal’s belly.

We meet a snowshoe rabbit at the back door each morning – he grazes on the lush green grass; we scuttle to the outhouse. My sister-in-law startled four wild turkeys one morning! The weather changes many times a day – cloudy, windy, still, humid, dry, sunny, breezy, cool, hot, downright cold. So does the color of the water – navy just before a storm, light blue in the bright sun, a medium blue when there’s a light cloud cover.

Tall Ships on Penobscot Bay

In places like this, my body and soul are nourished by nature and family. I sleep well and rest easy. During this trip, I intentionally did not work on my business, although I did let things roll around in my being. As we started to transition home, I noticed that my whole system started processing what I had put on hold.

Coming home

Upon my return, I had a session with my beloved cranial sacral therapist. I talked it all out – processed everything that had been rolling around in my psyche as she worked on the tissues of my body. The talking brought clarity that had been locked inside.

Then came the action – I moved lightning quick off the table and into action. I did all the things that had been waiting inside for expression. Lots of business structure upgrades, looking for a new car, changing my eating patterns, etc.
