When “Overwhelm” Pushes Aside Intuition

It’s nearing the end of August as I write this. The FemCity* theme for August was “Up-Leveling Your World” and that’s exactly what happened for me. Eventually.

This month, I have reviewed so many practice and course management apps I’m full up – and not in a good way. I decide on a program – with the full support of intuitive guidance – and then, WHAM! I discover something about it that won’t work for me and it’s back to the drawing board.

Changing Directions

I’ve had a similar experience reviewing resumes and interviewing virtual assistants. I think I’m interviewing someone who works alone only to find out she’s leading a team and the cost is 2-3 times what I’ve budgeted. Then I try to convince myself that it will be fine. But it’s not, and guidance sends me in a completely different direction. Which in the end is a fabulous direction, but, whew! So much unpredictability and so many course corrections!

My usually good instincts with tech were so overwhelmed and befuddled I needed a spreadsheet to keep track. My usually clear head became mush and the guidance I rely on for so many of my decisions disappeared into thin air. Thankfully, I have my husband Jake. He used to be a software engineer. He can listen to me rattle all these things off and make sense of my tech needs from an insider’s perspective.

He asks good questions. Do you need a custom app or will a generic one be enough? Do you want a program that will grow with you that may cost more now or a less robust program you will likely need to replace in a couple of years? Do you need a specialist or a generalist? Thankfully, he can answer these questions, too. He can review apps without getting lost and make recommendations that meet needs I can hardly articulate, but he can clearly see.

Don’t have any idea what these things are? Thank your lucky stars. Becoming a solopreneur these days is like learning a new language, moving to a new country, and developing new relationships all at once! Lisa Johnson, the gal I’m taking a class with on building One to Many programs, reminds us that passive income is not passive in the first several years – it’s a LOT of work to set up and get going.

Figuring it Out

Yup. I’m there. Up late. Up early. My mind constantly working on a to-do list. Juggling so many projects and deadlines I chose to use Asana, a project management software, that simply by its name reminds me that I should be doing more yoga to clear my head!

As the month comes to an end, I realize I found some clarity. I hired a marketing and social media specialist and an administrative virtual assistant. I decided to stay with the practice management program I have for now. And on my husband’s recommendation, I decided on an all-in-one app that will handle my email, CRM, course launches, audience development, sales pages, and such, but requires me to transcend some old beliefs about money.

Gaining Clarity

It has also become clear, once again, that when I know, I know. I feel lighter, happy… like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Deciding to go with something when I don’t have those body sensations and emotions means I’m desperate to JUST BE DONE and it’s unlikely to be a good fit. So, have patience, keep looking, and trust that the right and perfect answer, tool, or person will arrive just in time.

Finally, I am reminded that sometimes guidance comes from others, not from inside of me. A friend mentions an app or a person, I follow up, and WHAM! That’s the one. Of course, it goes the other way, too, but if I hold out for the lightness and sense of satisfaction, I’ll be golden.

Speaking of golden, have you tried meditating with golden light? It’s nourishing, grounding, and calmly cleansing. Try leading yourself through a guided meditation where you pour it into the crown of your head and allow it to slowly move through your body and out your feet. Slowly moving, like honey. Feel yourself supported and connected to the earth. It’s a balm for fuzzy, over-active, demanding minds. And given the astrology of the month (still getting mine from Chani Nicholas), I bet I’m not the only one needing some grounding, nourishing, calming energy going into September!
