Nonviolent Communication (NVC)

Also known as Compassionate Communication, NVC is a communication process created by Marshall B. Rosenberg as a way of connecting with others from our natural state of compassion.  For decades it has been used in the peace and justice movement to support authentic communication, conflict resolution and heartfelt connection.   Learning, practicing and adopting NVC as a spiritual practice can transform the relationships we have with colleagues, friends, family, and intimates.

I enjoy working with people who already know NVC, people who  have attended one or more workshops or intensives and want to  integrate NVC consciousness more fully into their lives.  I don’t offer basic NVC training; you can find people who do here.

[When working with Emilah], I experience empathy.
I experience more of mySELF in how she listens, offers feedback, thoughts, feelings, translations, etc.
I experience calm acceptance.

With clients, I enjoy exploring and using NVC consciousness (or needs consciousness) as a foundation for self-connection, decision making, and communication.  My focus includes teaching and modeling self-empathy and empathy for others, sensing feelings in order to identify universal needs that are met or unmet, and learning to savor needs to allow strategies  that serve life organically emerge. From this heart-centered place of self-acceptance clients are more spacious and open; able to see and choose strategies that are life-serving.

I especially enjoy exploring with clients how using NVC can support and transform intimate relationships (with themselves and others) and sexual expression.

I feel confident that I can get my needs met [in my relationship],
whereas before I began our work together I was feeling pretty hopeless about many things,
including feeling supported and heard.
It has helped me to feel confident in my choices and about my intuition.
